Introducing Susie Hetherington – Inspired By Craft and Nature
With a love of nature and a desire to re-connect with her creative talent away from the computer, Susie Hetherington’s transition from thriving graphic designer to textile designer was a brave but intuitive move.
Being interested in both art and the natural world from a small age, Susie was keen to re-connect with these pleasures and having her own children proved the catalyst for her to make the dream a reality. On long walks with the pushchair, Susie would spot little details from nature and instantly want to start sketching, whilst her daughter slept.
She started making these up into intricate block prints in rare spare moments and gradually worked up a fabric collection, printing detailed repeats, by hand. Her house soon became filled with lengths of drying fabric, taped to each wall.
Still relishing this process, combining her craftsmanship with digital printing has allowed Susie to grow her fledgling business, maintain flexibility and leave a bit more room in the house for her growing family!
Selling fabrics initially to friends and cushions through local shop, ‘Made in Stroud’, demand has quickly gathered momentum and a full collection is now available on the Susie Hetherington website. Susie Hetherington lives with her partner, Ollie and three young daughters: Freida, Aubrey and Mo, in the Stroud Valleys.View Susie's Collection
